Join us on May 2 for an evening of genre-blending sound and deeply rooted local music history, featuring Groove Atlas alongside Portsmouth mainstay Guy Capecelatro.
Groove Atlas bridges the gap between psychedelic rock and Americana, delivering a mix of nostalgia-inducing covers and original material that reflects the social and political landscape of today. Their sound is fluid and responsive, shifting instrumentation to match the moment — from the delicate textures of mandolin in intimate settings to the full force of electric guitars in high-energy rooms. Wherever they play, Groove Atlas meets the space with intention and adaptability.
Sharing the bill is Guy Capecelatro, a longtime fixture of the Seacoast music scene whose career spans decades of experimentation, collaboration, and storytelling. Originally from Mamaroneck, New York, Guy began playing guitar at age ten and has been immersed in music ever since. After studying philosophy and traveling across much of the United States, he settled in Portsmouth in the late 1980s, where he became deeply embedded in the local creative community.
Over the years, Guy has played in a wide range of bands — including Fancy Pants, Toast, Size of Guam, The Driveways, Up-a-Tree, Beekeeper, The Pants, Bob & Guy, and The Crotch Wax Menace — as well as performing with the country group The Buckets. He also founded the Two Ton Santa label and led numerous projects that blurred the lines between performance, humor, and experimentation. His work, including projects like Milk of Magnesia, reflects a willingness to take risks and create memorable, often unpredictable live experiences.
Together, this lineup offers a night that balances tight musicianship with a spirit of spontaneity, drawing from both contemporary influences and decades of local music culture.
