The Max Richardson Quintet
May 9, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm$8
Max Richardson is a freelance jazz trumpet player from Portland, Maine. Originally from South Berwick, Maine, he attended Marshwood High School, where he enjoyed acceptance to district, state, and national honors festivals. Throughout his career, Max has given performances with Jeff Coffin, Chris Berg, and Trent Austin. In 2016 he joined Godsmack lead singer Sully Erna to perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Max also performs with a number of other groups in the Portland area, frequenting venues such as One Longfellow Square, Merrill Auditorium, and Port City Blue.
As a commercial player, Max worked for Royal Caribbean International aboard the Radiance of the Seas, playing lead trumpet. Max also performs in pit orchestras up and down the seacoast, most notably Winnipesaukee Playhouse, Rochester Opera House, and Seacoast Repertory Theater. Most often, you will hear Max performing monthly at Portland’s One Longfellow Square with the Portland Jazz Orchestra. He recently joined the PJO on their newest studio album, “Generations.”
Currently he attends the University of Southern Maine, where he studies with Portland Symphony Orchestra member Elizabeth Rines and seacoast jazz phenom Chris Klaxton. At USM, Max maintains a busy schedule as a member and soloist with the wind ensemble, concert band, jazz ensemble, and jazz combos, as well as the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra. Recently, Max was selected to perform for USM’s 40th annual honors recital, and was granted acceptance to the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Band Festival.
The Max Richardson Quintet features a collaboration of seacoast musicians performing a combination of fresh takes on selections from the American Songbook, as well as original compositions. The result is a uniquely creative sound, simultaneously modern and historical.
