As the sun dipped behind the legendary Fenway Park, the anticipation in the air was electric. Def Leppard, celebrating 40 years of rock greatness, took the stage at 9:00pm, marking two years since their last visit to Boston. The crowd erupted as the band kicked off their 90-minute set with the explosive “Rock Rock ’til You Drop,” instantly bringing die-hard fans to their feet and into full sing-along mode.
The band’s new stage setup, with fans packed into the pit and right up alongside the stage, created an intimate atmosphere that made the night even more special. It was a multi-generational celebration of rock ‘n’ roll, with everyone from longtime fans to young new listeners reveling in the sound that has defined Def Leppard for decades.
Rick Allen, the Thundergod himself, was a standout as always, with his drum kit featuring a dynamic bass drum that shifted from the iconic Pyromania album cover to the classic Def Leppard logo. Bassist Rick Savage was in top form, covering the stage with his usual energetic presence and engaging with the crowd at every turn. Meanwhile, guitarists Vivian Campbell and Phil Collen delivered the powerful riffs and signature moves that have become synonymous with Def Leppard’s live shows.
Frontman Joe Elliott had the entire crowd in the palm of his hand, leading the sing-alongs and reminding everyone of the band’s incredible 40-year journey. His voice, as strong as ever, carried the night and solidified the band’s place in rock history.
Def Leppard shared the night with co-headliners Journey and the Steve Miller Band, making it a truly unforgettable evening of classic rock. If you haven’t caught them on this tour yet, don’t miss your chance to celebrate with these rock legends before the summer ends.
