DESCRIPTION:The Pinkerton Raid’s Jesse James DeConto hails from New England\, with dad’s guitar and mom’s radio tuned to Soulsville\, The Village\, Liverpool and Laurel Canyon\, now mining foothills-folk in Durham\, N.C.\, for songs AMERICANA-UK calls “anthemic.” With their latest release of winter-themed cover songs\, the band takes on those classic mellow-gold sounds directly\, bookending their sonic journey with a pop-noir version of Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time Is Here” and a driving\, drum-circle and brass-polished rendition of folk-rock descendants Fleet Foxes’ “White Winter Hymnal.” “Radiant\,” says AMERICAN SONGWRITER. The band has opened for Illiterate Light\, The Ballroom Thieves\, TopHouse\, The Collection and Noah Gundersen. They’ve slotted at Daytrotter and at festivals like Shakori Hills\, Albino Skunk\, H St.\, Beacon Bonfire and AVL Fest with artists such as River Whyless\, Sunny War\, Watchhouse\, Amythyst Kiah and The Bones of JR Jones. “A fine blend of Beatles-esque dreamy folk\,” says AMERICANA HIGHWAYS. \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. SUMMARY:Bitter Pill & Lovesick - July 20th!
DESCRIPTION:Bitter Pill is a tight-knit New Hampshire family band\, (literally father and daughter) who play a dark and anachronistic twist of folk\, blues\, bluegrass\, country\, and rockabilly. A foot stompin’\, hand clappin’\, spirited\, cross-genre rhythm and bluegrass ensemble. \n“This ain’t a slice of the floppy hat\, fancy boots\, folk boom throwback found at vacant pop-folk festivals ‘round the world. This is the real deal\, punch you in the gut and keep you coming back looking for more goods.” Chris Hislop \n“Smart\, dramatic\, visual\, evocative compositions that cross genres and casts shades of Tom Waits and Shane MacGowan.” NH Magazine \nbitterpillband.com \nhttps://hyperfollow.com/bitterpillband \n \n  \nLovesick\nGoolkasian\, also known as The Texas Governor\, of the notorious and cutting edge trio\, The Elevator Drops\, is back with new music. Lovesick\, a creative collaboration with painter and chanteuse Heather Joy Morgan. \nAn overdose of inventive love songs exploring the splendor & madness of love. A creative Rock & Roll experiment. A light & dark electro-cabaret. Lovesick’s debut release\, “…hoping this is the end…”\, was written and recorded in the anxiety of pandemic isolation and yet it feels free-spirited and fun. \nBLUE SKIES ON MARS – “As I look in your eyes & I hope for a Hollywood ending – Blue skies on Mars\n& I’m hoping this is the end”. A quixotic Sci-Fi sing-along? A hopeful surge of passionate feelings in a doom laden time here on planet earth. \nHOLIDAY – features some beautiful upright bass played by the legendary Tony Garnier\, whose bass is a staple on both Tom Waits & Bob Dylan’s recordings). The record was produced by Ross Cisneros\, who has helped craft strings & sounds for BMG’s publishing catalog\, (working with artists as vast as Lana Del-Rey\, Serge Gainsbourg & Bruce Springstein) at Studio Geist. \nWE’VE BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD – features a singing Italian Greyhound Puppy named Cozimo. \n \n“Lovesick is what pop promised to be\, in the ’80s or’90s\, whenever we were young\, Velvet Underground\, Echo & the Bunnymen\, when our identity was externalized in our music\, not in our selves. Rollicking. Romantic. Eerie.” – Lisa Crystal Carver\n— Roller-Derby Zine\, Drugs Are Nice\nCheck out more: https://lovesickband.com \n  \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. SUMMARY:Wes Pearce\, Jon Hatchett\, & Hamilton Belk - June 16th
DESCRIPTION:Wes Pearce\n \n“Wes Pearce’s songwriting steeps southern-appalachian folk in a boiling pot of early doo-wop\, with a sweet spoonful of heartfelt lyricism\, and a pinch of indie-rock to taste.” \nLinktree: https://linktr.ee/wespearcemusic \nJon Hatchett\n \nHatchett originally hails from Massachusetts\, where he was raised by musical parents and grew up surrounded by a variety of musical influences. He was a bicycle messenger and played in rock and roll bands bands around the Boston area for years before hitting the road with an acoustic guitar and a eclectic repertoire of tunes\, busking his way around the country. After a few years on the road and living in various places\, he finally hung his hat in New Orleans in 2009 and jumped into the local scene with both feet\, playing with various bands including Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue\, Miss Martha\, the Wasted Lives\, and the Leveetoppers. He has since relocated to West Paris\, ME where he works as a Forester and continues to write and record music. \nCheck out more: http://jonhatchett.com/ \n  \nHamilton Belk\nBelk’s songs are slow burning\, humble affirmations that paradox is the only way forward\, born on the shards of time between tours and overdub sessions. His influences draw from the country-folk lexicon\, slacker rock\, years of recording parts for everything from Urdustani folk to petrosexual pop country\, and the timeless\, lonesome tears of the steel guitar. \nCheck out more: https://hamiltonbelk.bandcamp.com/track/whole-again \n  \nTickets are $10 in advance and $15 @ the door. SUMMARY:Hiroya Tsukamoto RETURNS with "A Journey Through Strings and Stories" - June 14th!
DESCRIPTION:“A Journey Through Strings and Stories” \nTsukamoto brings a blend of masterful fingerstyle guitar and evocative storytelling that transcends cultural barriers. His artistry\, honed at the prestigious Berklee College of Music\, has been celebrated on renowned stages like the Blue Note in NYC and the United Nations\, and lauded for its “delicate\, fluid\, and beautifully detailed” style by Acoustic Guitar magazine. \nTsukamoto’s concerts are not just musical events; they are immersive experiences that weave lyrical narratives with intricate melodies. Recognized for his soulful performances that create an orchestra at his fingertips\, he invites audiences into his world of musical exploration and emotional expression. This is a rare opportunity to witness a performer who has been celebrated for his ability to take listeners on an “impressionistic journey” (Boston Herald).  Enchanting music that promises to resonate long after the final note is played. \nBio: \nHiroya Tsukamoto is a Japanese-born fingerstyle guitarist who moved to the United States in 2000 to attend the Berklee College of Music. Needless to say\, he’s not only a dizzyingly agile fingerpicker\, but a soulful and transcendent performer\, with compositions that combine instrumental guitar work with lyrical performance and spoken stories from his life.  \nTsukamoto has been recognized for his talents on stages such as at Blue Note in New York City\, Japanese National Television (NHK)\, International Storytelling Center and United Nations\, and by scoring second place at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship both in 2018 and 2022.  \n \n“Hiroya Tsukamoto may play the guitar with the skill of a virtuoso\, and he may write compelling music that draws from many different cultures and genres\, but if I had to choose one word to describe him it would be orchestrator. ” – Acoustic Guitar Magazine\n\n\n“Hiroya Tsukamoto takes us to an impressionistic journey ” -Boston Herald\n\n“…chops\, passion and warmth. Zealously recommended!”   -Jazz Review.com\n\nGemini Bridge\n \nhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3BWGEbK6xCk&pp=ygUeR2VtaW5pIGJyaWRnZSBtb3JlIGJhcm4gaGlyb3lh\n  \nFrom Coast to Coast\n \nhttps://youtu.be/fT0LcrKAjJQ?si=HArablLRS795TcQw\n\n\nTickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. SUMMARY:Minor Moon with Dead Gowns & Ezra Cohen & The Big City Band - May 9th!
DESCRIPTION:Minor Moon\n \nAt the heart of Minor Moon’s open-ended and knotty country rock songs is an undeniably inviting lightness. While the Chicago-based songwriter and bandleader Sam Cantor writes impressionistic songs about the end of the world\, they’re wrapped in such a warm blanket of lush guitars and pastoral twang that they always leave a hopeful spark. On their latest LP\, The Light Up Waltz\, Cantor sings of the fantastical in magical traveling bands\, swaying bridges\, and aquamarine metamorphoses. Still\, he’s concerned with fundamentally human questions about who we are and how we reinvent ourselves when everything crumbles around us. \nWebsite: https://www.minormoon.com/ \n\nDead Gowns\n \nDead Gowns is the project of Portland-Maine singer-songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin. In her latest collection\, the HOW EP\, she pushes “expressive arrangements and raw melodies into a glowing spectacle” (Foxy Digitalis). Both urgent and sincere\, it’s “the sound of a songwriter coming good on all her promises and then some” (For the Rabbits). Vinyl Me\, Please named Dead Gowns a VMP Rising Artist in 2023 and the band released an expanded version of HOW to vinyl and all streaming platforms. \nLinktree: https://linktr.ee/DeadGowns \n\n\nEzra Cohen & The Big City Band\n \nEzra Cohen & The Big City Band is a rock band from Dover\, NH that channels the influences of bands like The Replacements\, The Lemonheads and The Gin Blossoms. \nBandcamp: https://ezracohen.bandcamp.com/album/big-sky \n  \nDoors open @ 7 pm\, show starts @ 8 pm. \nCost is $10 in advance and $15.00 at the door. SUMMARY:Register NOW for a spot @ WSCA's April Arts Market! Calling all local artists!
DESCRIPTION:Hey y’all!\nThis year at WSCA we are hoping to host an art market every other month (maybe even every month!!) to continue with our integration of the arts with the radio station. \nThe purpose of this market is to bring both the radio and art communities together and to give artists a space to reach new audiences and have their art seen (and sold !). \nWe also take this opportunity to use vendor fees to raise money for the station. \nWSCA is a non-profit\, volunteer run\, community radio station; all donations made to the station help cover costs related to the building and maintaining our broadcasts. \nThis application is for artists local to the seacoast region to apply for a vendor space at our radio station at 909 Islington St in Portsmouth\, NH on April 27th\, with all vendor fees going straight to the WSCA.\n\nAll makers\, curators\, and artists alike are welcome to apply and if you are feeling so inclined to donate any amount or percentage of sales from the 27th to the WSCA\, that is greatly appreciated but in no way required.\n\nThis time around we are toying with having the market run from 11am-5pm. If traffic winds down and vendors would like to leave at 4\, we are allowing it as we feel out the potential for having the market run longer!\n\nWe will be offering spaces inside the building and outside in the parking lot. A rain date may be set as the 28th if the weather turns out to be crappy\, this is tbd and all vendors will be notified if that date change is to occur.\n\nThe market will run from 11am-5pm on April 27th @ WSCA\n\n CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION FORM\n  \nFOR EVERYONE: \nIf you would like to attend or make a donation to WSCA to continue support for local art markets\, visit PortsmouthNHtickets: https://portsmouthnhtickets.com/events/calling-all-local-artists-register-for-wscas-april-arts-market-4-27-2024

SUMMARY:Analise with The Nut - Friday April 26th!
DESCRIPTION:Analise\nAnalise is an upcoming Indie artist that is honest\, vulnerable\, and completely her own. She’s been an overly extroverted\, emotional and creative person since birth and when she started writing songs around the age of 13\, it quickly became Analise’s favorite way of communicating and connecting with others. Still is. Since then\, she has recorded\, produced\, and released five singles\, with her latest project “Messy” receiving over 20k streams in just two months. The release of her Debut EP\, “Oshibana\,” was one of her most vulnerable and heartfelt releases to date. A Wonderland Magazine feature describes the EP as an exploration of the “minefield” of young love\, and as Analise describes it\, “tries to understand our growing selves\, while trying to give ourselves to someone else.” Since its release\, “Oshibana” has gained accolades from international platforms such as Ear-milk\, Find Your Sound\, and Music News UK as well as the aforementioned Wonderland Magazine. \nInspired by the likes of Dijon\, Boygenius\, Omar Apollo\, Adrienne Lenker\, her mom’s BeeGees obsession\, and the countless musicals she made up with her older sisters\, her music blends together everything that she has lived\, loved\, and learned. Her goal as an artist is to promote thought in the lives of her listeners\, to hear her story and to better understand their own. Analise’s music is relatable\, relieving\, and unlike anything else. With her new video series\, “One of Many\,” sparking attention on her platform and her debut album on its way for release in January 2024\, Analise is overjoyed to be able to share herself with whoever’s ears are open to hear. \nCheck out more: https://linktr.ee/analisemarin \n\nThe Nut\nCheck out more: https://www.instagram.com/thenutisgood/ \n  \n  \n  \nCost $15 at the door and $10.00 in advance at PortsmouthNHtickets: https://portsmouthnhtickets.com/events/analise-4-26-2024 \nDoors @ 7pm \nShow @ 8pm
