Button Factory Jazz: Johanna Landis

Johanna is a classical and contemporary singer, pianist and songwriter. She did undergraduate studies at Berklee College of Music and postgraduate training with Victor Jannett , Monique Phinney, and Elizabeth Phinney all of Boston Conservatory. She started singing professionally in Los Angeles where she toured with Chaka Kahn. She also toured with The Russ Morgan Orchestra and sang with River and Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Halloran, and many others.
Johanna is also an opera singer and has performed in Italy, most notably at the Orfeo International Music Festival where she studied with Dmitry Vdovin -Director of The Bolshoi Opera Young Artist Program. She served as executive director of Piccola Opera Company in Concord ,NH. She is a regular performer at the Benderley-Kendall Opera House in Patagonia , Arizona and in many churches on both the east and west coast.
A recent arrival to Portsmouth, Johanna can be heard singing in many New Hampshire churches and live music venues She has been lucky to collaborate with and perform with Tim Ray, arguably Boston’s finest jazz pianist, guitarist Woody Allen, and Ray De Marco and Michael Pellecchia among others. She is currently recording her third CD at North Mill Pond Studio in Portsmouth.
The upcoming Button Factory performance will showcase a new collaboration between Johanna and pianist Joe Mullholland. Joe is a professor of harmony at Berklee College and a singers accompanist-a special kind of piano player.
Fun fact-Johanna holds a doctorate in Medical Dentistry.
