Button Factory Jazz: Jim Dozet Trio

August 30, 2019 @ 12:00 am - 2:00 am

$8 – $10

From clubs locally and abroad, to private events – In demand session work to Bonnaroo, Dozet has done, seen, and played it all. Dozet has followed the notes – played and unplayed – that have been calling him and took on life as a professional musician after earning a degree in jazz guitar performance from the University of New Hampshire. But please, don’t let that specified genre fool you… Along with his critically acclaimed jazz chops, Dozet frequents the realm of rock, funk, classical, folk, blues, hip-hop, and soul as well. In short: He knows no bounds.

To ring in 2013, Dozet celebrated the new year by dropping his solo debut, “Shadows in the Dark” – putting his singer/songwriter tendencies on the table for all to hear. Tapping into the notebook of such contemporary luminaries as Ray LaMontagne, Amos Lee, Martin Sexton, and Gary Clark Jr., Dozet’s debut has been well received by music fans, and critics alike; A crowning achievement for a musician that stepped out of the shadows to showcase another element to his vast repertoire – that of a successful, vibrant singer/songwriter.

As a guitarist steeped in the traditions of jazz and blues, Dozet speaks the language of those he cites as sources of inspiration: Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, Pat Martino, Jim Hall, George Benson, Kurt Rosenwinkle Eric Krasno, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie King, and Wayne Krantz. As a songwriter, he takes lesson from the masters: John Lennon, Elton John, Billy Joel, Van Morrison, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Al Green, and Taj Mahal. What separates Dozet in his chase for the song lay in the fact that he doesn’t focus solely on writing lyrics. Nor does he focus solely on plucking a contagious melody on the six-string. Dozet is consciously looking to wrap both skill-sets together and craft the best song he can. He thrives off of lessons that can be learned in the past, taking said lessons and moving in a progressive forward musical motion.

Inspired musicians don’t rest. They can’t. Be it his own Jim Dozet Trio (jazz), JD3 (Americana Trio), his esteemed solo work as a singer/songwriter and collaborations with many of today’s best and brightest musical creators – Dozet spends the entirety of his existence living in the moment. Sharing the stage with musical peers The Roots, Soulive, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Slick Rick, and many more… Dozet has a track record of contributing and shining in any moment, as the moment arises – in any capacity. The guitar, and performing the instrument well, is the lifeblood that courses through his veins. The songs he sings and performs, he sings and performs with utmost honesty and passion. Have respect for music, and watch where the notes take you. That’s a day in the life of Jim Dozet.
